From 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds with the 4.0 TDI engine and 320 kW (435 hp) – the engine works together with strong partners to achieve these values. The world's first electric-powered compressor (EPC) is being used in a production vehicle. The V8 engine is newly developed from scratch, maintaining the balance between performance and efficiency. It draws its power from 3,956 cc displacement. The 900 Nm of torque are available between 1,000-3,250 rpm.
The two exhaust gas turbochargers of the completely redeveloped twin-turbo engine follow the principle of sequential turbocharging: at low and medium speeds, only one turbocharger is powered and the second turbine is only switched on at a higher load. The turbochargers are supplemented by the electric-powered compressor, especially in the lower speed range – for pure dynamics without a turbo lag.
The boost pressure build-up of the electric-powered compressor requires no exhaust energy and can therefore be used at any time, making it the solution for the traditional weaknesses of the traditional turbocharger. The compressor provides the engine with the boost pressure energy it needs for dynamic power delivery in less than 250 milliseconds. The eight-cylinder diesel engine thus builds up its immense power without any perceivable delay. A big plus, especially when starting.
Innovative: The 48-volt vehicle power supply
Innovative components require energy - the driving power of the electric-powered compressor, for example, is 7 kW at its peak. This energy is provided by a 48-volt vehicle power supply, which allows the use of the EPC and the high-performance optional electromechanical dynamic ride control. For their high power and energy requirements, under the luggage compartment in the vehicle power supply is a separate 48-volt lithium-ion battery with 470 watt hours of nominal energy content and an output of up to 13 kilowatts.
Active dynamic ride control
The optional dynamic ride control provides excellent ride comfort and superior cornering stability. A compact electric motor with a planetary gear separates the two halves of the anti-roll bar. In an uneven route, they are actively decoupled, thus increasing the ride comfort. With a sporty setting and dynamic curves, the bars are interconnected and rotated against each other. This reduces the body roll of the SQ7 TDI.
Newly developed: The tiptronic
The newly developed eight-speed tiptronic changes gears extremely quickly and efficiently and allows for cruising in idle at higher speeds. Together with the all-wheel drive quattro and its self-locking centre differential, the forces are convincingly directed onto the road. The dynamic handling package is optionally available, which includes three technological modules: sports differential, electromechanical active dynamic ride control and all-wheel steering.
